프란치스코 교황님은 2023년 7월 9일 정오 삼종기도 중에 다가오는 9월 30일 바티칸에서 새로운 추기경들을 선출하기 위한 추기경 회의를 개최할 것이라고 발표했다.

이번에 발표한 추기경 명단에는 살레시오회 앙헬 페르난데스 아르티메 신부의 이름도 들어있다.

이번 추기경 회의는 10월에 전 세계 대표들과 함께 열리는 시노드의 개최 직전에 열린다. 새로운 추기경들은 가톨릭 교회의 보편성을 나타내며, 하느님의 자비로운 사랑을 지구상의 모든 사람들에게 전파한다. 또한, 새로운 추기경들이 로마 가톨릭 교회에 속한다는 의미는 베드로 좌와 세계 곳곳에 퍼져 있는 여러 교회들과의 분리될 수 없는 일치와 유대를 나타낸다. 새로운 추기경들은 전세계 각지역에서 임명된다. 그 중에는 신앙교리성, 주교성, 동방교회의 장관들과 홍콩, 예루살렘, 미국 등의 주교들이 포함된다.
